When I start seeing fresh local corn at the farmers market, this pan-charred corn, orzo and arugula salad is the very first thing I make! It’s refreshing, satisfying, and has that sweet-savory craveability. The sweet is from the corn, which becomes sweeter from sautéing it until caramelized (browned). The savory is from everything else. The pepperiness from the greens and the citrus zing from the combination of lemon and lime juices make this extra mmm…emorable.

Hey fig lovers … this recipe is for you! (It’s for me, too!) When fresh figs are in season, I gotta have ‘em often … basically every day! I adore black mission and tiger stripe varieties. And I love serving them every which way, especially grilled and paired with cheese for a party platter. When doing this, I leave the stems on, cut in half lengthwise, and grill until charred. When grilling up figs for inclusion in recipes, I remove stems before they hit the grill. Charred figs have an interesting smokiness and enhanced natural sweetness. When asparagus is in season, you betcha I’m going to find a way to eat it in every way possible! Though I crave the springy green veggie in a creamy pasta, like fettuccine alfredo, that’s obviously not so calorie- or heart-friendly.
