This dark chocolate cherry martini is like an indulgent milkshake and a cocktail all in one! You actually get a triple delight of chocolate from the chocolate liqueur, white crème de cacao, and shaved dark chocolate rim. Though your favorite feature will likely be the intriguing cherry accent from Bordeaux Maraschino Cherries. They are handpicked Dark Sweet Cherries grown in Oregon—and contain absolutely no artificial ingredients. Plus, they’re so easy to use, making them a great addition to any cocktail, including this delicious drink.

fruit-sweetened dark cocoa smoothie

One of my favorite things to enjoy after a long power walk is a smoothie. And when it comes to whirled up beverages, there’s no better flavor in my book than chocolate … the darker the better! So, meet my dark chocolatey smoothie. You only need three ingredients to make it—fat-free milk (preferably organic), unsweetened cocoa powder and, for sweetness, California prunes. Yep, you read that right … prunes! In the culinary sense, these dried fruits (dried plums, to be precise) enhance chocolatiness. They provide sweetness in a no-sugar-added manner. Plus, they’re beneficial for gut and bone health! In other words, that’s a win-win-win-win!

What’s one of my favorite things to enjoy post-workout or after a long, long, long sweaty walk in the summer? This nutty, chocolatey, fruity smoothie! It quenches my thirst, satisfies the desire for something tasty, and provides key nutrients to replenish my body. You can also play with the smoothie recipe and make it your own by adding in some extras, like a few spinach or mint leaves. Or, if you’re in a desserty mood, go for extra-dark chocolatiness by adding in more cocoa powder.   Either way, it’s got good numbers! This recipe provides 33 gram of carbs (with no added sugars!) to replenish glycogen in the muscles and 14 grams of protein to make those muscles happy. It’s...

I’ve got an oh-so-yummy family-friendly recipe for you. And no, I didn’t sneak kale or anything weird in here! This is just what you think it is … a chocolate lover’s quick bread that has plenty of banana goodness and mouthwatering moistness. Enjoy it as a snack or, as the name implies, dessert. A healthy-ish dessert, that is! You can even grill up a thick slice of the chocolatey bread and top it while warm with a scoop of plant-based ice cream or mashed raspberries—or both! Perhaps I’m a bit odd, but my favorite way to eat this is semi-frozen and thinly sliced. That’s how my mom used to serve her classic banana bread for an afterschool treat. Try it...

california dark chocolate candies

Can candy offer health benefits? If you make these, the answer is definitely yes! These candies start with dark chocolate, which contains polyphenols that act as antioxidants. But the real surprise is what’s inside; it’s prunes! Research suggests that eating 5-6 California prunes a day may help support healthy bones—plus they provide additional polyphenols. They’re a perfect bite for an after dinner sweet. Enjoy!   Disclosure: At the time of posting, Jackie Newgent is a spokesperson for California Prune Board.
